Moby: “I Don’t Advocate Sobriety For Anyone Who Can Drink Successfully”

By

Ben Barna

Moby: “I Don’t Advocate Sobriety For Anyone Who Can Drink Successfully” Who would've thunk that demure electronic music superstar Moby was a self-proclaimed raging alcoholic? We spoke to him to talk about his Last Night Remixed album, but somehow talk degenerated into drunk Lower East Side debauchery, timing cocaine use just right, and birthday party blackouts.

Falling in Love with a Uniqlo Droid

By

Ben Barna

Falling in Love with a Uniqlo Droid I fell in love with a vending machine today. Uniqlo, the Japanese avant-wear retailer, took over the center of Times Square today to dole out freebies of their new HEATTECH clothing; the line's made from fabric that converts body moisture into heat. People lined up in the brisk air for a chance to get a free piece from vending machines that resembled humans. "I don't even think they know what they're lining up for," said someone from Uniqlo.

Frank Owen Calls the Cops on Steve Lewis

By

Chris Mohney

imageNew York nightlife chronicler Frank Owen was none too appreciative of beloved nightlife columnist Steve Lewis' hyperbolic, cartoonish wish to pop Owen in the nose at this past weekend's Paper Nightlife Awards. So concerned is Owen about the entirely metaphorical nose-popping that, according to an item shaping up for tomorrow's Page Six, Owen will be pressing charges against Lewis. Says Steve, "Owen is half my age and twice my size, so I guess it would be a fair fight. But he's so drunk all the time, it really wouldn't be fair, so I'd never actually get into a fight with him." Should law enforcement apprehend Steve Lewis in days to come, we'll set up a pledge drive here to bail him out. Meanwhile, after the jump, enjoy a transcription of the angry voicemail Owen just left us! Uh oh.

Anna Wintour Preparing to Escape?

By

John Clarke Jr.

imageCould Vogue editrix Anna Wintour really be retiring? Sources tell Page Six that the editor is tired, deflated after recently shuttering three titles (including Fashion Rocks, Teen Vogue, and Men's Vogue), and she doesn't have the fight in her anymore. The recent speculation centers around her contract coming up soon for renewal, or lack thereof. "She's thinking of retiring," an unnamed source said. "She feels she's done it all and had enough. She has been putting out feelers to intimate friends recommending a possible replacement to S.I. Newhouse. She's so tired out, she just let Men's Vogue close instead of fighting for it." A Conde Nast rep said the reports are "completely unfounded." And publicists never lie.

Industry Insider: Kerry Simon, Vegas Victualeur

Industry Insider: Kerry Simon, Vegas Victualeur Kerry Simon, owner of Simon (Palms Place at the Palms Hotel and Casino), Cat House (Luxor), and Simon LA (Sofitel Hotel in LA). He dishes on rock star aspirations, rock star labels, and the food in between.

Point of Origin: I thought I was going to be a guitar player and got a job at a pizza place to earn money to buy equipment. I eventually found out that I really enjoyed cooking. I really didn’t know where to go, so I started learning about culinary institutes and going to cooking school. Even when I was doing that, I didn’t know exactly where it would take me.

Prince Gets Stinky Over Perfume Deal

By

John Clarke Jr.

imageFor such a small guy, Prince is making a huge amount of trouble these days. First the diminutive bible thumper stirs the pot on the heels of Proposition 8, claiming that homosexuality is wrong."God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out," said the Purple One. "He was, like, 'Enough.' " Now, Prince is stinking up the courtroom in a lawsuit that claims his diva-like behavior is dooming his Revelations fragrance line, "3121."

Good Night Mr. Lewis: Nobu’s Richie Notar, from Busboy to Dubai

By

Steve Lewis

imageI sat with Richie Notar in his fabulous and famous restaurant Nobu 57, and as we talked, it felt like I was just catching up with an old friend from the neighborhood. The amazingly accessible Richie gave me an hour just before he set off to open more Nobu franchises in exotic places far away from his Queens roots. His partnership with Robert De Niro and his relationships with Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager may have kick-started his career, but success on this level is the result of someone who has given his heart, mind, and very soul in the pursuit of greatness. Working his way up from dishwasher -- and not ashamed to say it -- Richie is what this town is about; his hard work produced an empire. I am reminded of Caesars riding in triumphal chariots while a slave whispered mortality in their ears. Richie doesn’t need anyone to remind him from where he came from; he keeps his past real close, and despite triumphal success, remains humble and down to earth.

Los Angeles: Top 10 Burgers

By

Bryce Longton

image1. Irv’s Burgers (West Hollywood) - Juicy, fantastic burgers since 1958, responsible for Rowlands and Cassavetes' nourishment.
2. Tommy’s (Echo Park) - Open 24 hours, long line goes fast with occasional flashes of high-speed chasing and ghetto bird sightings along the Blvd.
3. Father’s Office (Santa Monica) - Award-winning gourmet burgers and microbrews in a crowded cubicle of wood and way too much inhumanity.
