2009 Travel Vocabulary: A Primer
January 08, 2009
The travel industry is flinging around some new lingo to pin down the mood of 2009. First there was the staycation -- staying at home during your vacation instead of traveling to a pleasure destination. This can be caused by high gas prices, or just a shortage of money. Example: "We wanted to take a trip to Niagara Falls, but with gas over $4 a gallon, we instead opted for a staycation." The there was the naycation -- taking zero days of vacation. Example: "I'm worried keeping my job, so this year's I'll be taking a Naycation." Now Gadling is coining the yaycation (not cocaine-related, unfortunately) -- turn lemons into lemonade and get out there and see the world. Example: "I lost my job at Lehman Brothers, so now I have the time to get over to see the Taj Mahal. Not to mention that flight and gas prices are free-fall cheap."
