Europe and Asia seem to be far ahead in recognizing the value of web-based publications. Although it is changing in the USA, too many destinations seem wedded to print in a way that will ultimately work against them.

And, on another aspect, I loved your column! One of the best “my life as a travel writer on a press trip” pieces I’ve read.

Great post Zach and even better pic.  I would have gone to China just for the white silk pajamas. Also, agree big time with Neala-if print won’t go to bed on their own, the PR industry will definitely read it a bedtime story.

The value of press trips and fam trips can’t be ignored.  In this economy with papers and magazines folding right and left, and most travel writers living on limited budgets, these kind of junkets provide an excellent ROI for the businesses in the travel industry to get the word out about their destinations.  And I do agree Europe and Asia seem to have realized the value of online publications faster than the US. But I think that’s going to change soon too.  Great article - and I love the jammies too!
