A Vampire-less Weekend at Lollapalooza

Each spring brings the requisite announcements of summer festival lineups. For each list, desensitization sets in just about five or six acts past the headliners, as they are are all formidable, and all loved. These days, it isn’t difficult for organizers of major festivals to pack their slates with stadium players, Pitchfork-adored art rockers, and cool-kid rappers. Coachella is the standard, of course, but look at the lineups to already-announced fests such as All Points West festival, the Outside Lands festival, and the Pemberton festival. With so many great bills, who cares anymore, right?
But even we, jaded music fans, are impressed with today’s announcement of the long-rumored Lollapalooza bill. Appearing in Chicago’s Grant Park from Aug 1st to the 3rd will be: Radiohead, NIN, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West, Wilco, and the Raconteurs—plus Gnarls Barkley, Cat Power, Broken Social Scene, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Bloc Party, Girl Talk, Battles, Grizzly Bear, Jamie Lidell, the Go! Team, the Cool Kids, Kid Sister, the Black Keys, Mates of State, Love and Rockets, Lupe Fiasco, the National, Explosions in the Sky, Okkervil River, CSS, Spank Rock, Black Kids, Black Lips, the Kills, Booka Shade, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Gogol Bordello, Amadou & Mariam, Rogue Wave, the Gutter Twins, Yeasayer, Dr. Dog, the Octopus Project, and Cadence Weapon.
