Alexander Wang Wins CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award
November 18, 2008
Get ready for a whole lot more Wang within the pages of Vogue and beyond. Last night at a star-studded affair at NYC’s Skylight Studios, Vogue and the CFDA awarded fashion designer Alexander Wang the much-coveted fifth annual Fashion Fund award, which translates to $200,000 towards his brand and a year of mentoring from the top names in the business. Many of the latter were on hand last night -- from keynote speaker John Galliano and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg, to Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, and Tommy Hillfiger, just to name a few.
In taking the top honor, Wang beat out a slew of noteworthy talents like Vena Cava, Juan Carlos Obando, Obedient Sons & Daughters, and (fashion blog favorite for the win) Richard Chai. But don’t worry; runners-up will likewise be awarded $50,000 and a business mentor. Considering the San Francisco native can now count the CFDA—American fashion’s most illustrious organization—as a fan (not to mention, he’s already Foxy Brown’s #1 fave), the 24-year-old should be riding pretty high right about now. So how did he celebrate? The wunderkind designer told Style.com he was planning to “call up all my friends, order a pizza, and go dance my ass off.”
