Morning After ‘Twilight’: Robert Pattinson Drinks Deep at Beatrice Inn
Ben Barna
November 24, 2008
So, Twilight. Thoughts? Are you still in deeply in love with Edward Cullen? Someone I know saw it three times this weekend (or was it four?). Someone else I know wept. Others saw Robert Pattinson celebrating his film's dazzling opening weekend at Beatrice Inn, wasted and cheerfully straddling a banquette. The film is already such a smash that number two in the series is already in the works. So even though reviews were lukewarm, the Twilight train is barreling forward. Except I got this disconcerting text on Saturday night from a coworker and devout fan of the books.
“Ben FYI I am beyond disgusted with the twilight movie and I think I should write something to convey the utter disappointment that has been expressed by all the fans. It was seriously the worst movie I’ve ever seen. - bridgette.” I just went to her desk and followed up on that review, and she put it in even blunter terms. “Everything about it was bad. The writing was bad, the acting was bad—if I hadn’t read the book, I would have walked out after the first 15 minutes.” I hope Melissa Rosenberg doesn’t read this. Awkward!

Yeah, what fans? I am a fan of the book, and I am not a teenager, actually 31 years old. I actually liked the movie. I think it could have been a little better, but they didn’t have the biggest budget to work with either. I think they really nailed the main story line of the book. Of course it wasn’t as great as the book. Film adaptations never are because you can’t cram every single sentence in a book into 120 minutes.
I SAW THIS MOVIE SUNDAY, I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY DIDN’T BUILD THE RELATIONSHIP MORE, IT WAS LIKE IN FAST
MOTION, TO MUCH DIALOGUE WAS LEFT OUT, BUT THE ACTING
WAS BELIEVABLE. EMMETT WAS DEAD ON AS I PICTURED, ROSALEE WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT, SHE MUST HAVE HAD PULL TO NAIL THAT PART. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE SCRIP THAT LET ME
DOWN BECAUSE THE ACTING WAS ENJOYABLE, WHO-EVER SCRIPTED
HARRY POTTER, THAT’S WHO THEY NEED TO HIRE! THEY KEPT WITH THE BOOKS BETTER THAN ANYONE I’VE EVER SEEN… MAKE
THE CALL SUMMITT!

I agree, the movie was disappointing. Kristen Stewart had this werid studder which completley ruined the scenes, Bella never was like that. Robert mixed up his emotions, like when Bella entered the room to Chemistry he seemed like he wanted to puke, when in the book he wanted to kill her, he was stiff and very uncomfortable. If her scent was the greatest scent to him why would he want to puke on her.

The movie felt like it was 2 seconds long. It had no detail only event after event which made it terrible. I hated how they added that scene with the field trip and Edward was acting like a gerk, Edward was never mean to Bella in the Book, he wanted to protect her. i hated how they mixed scenes up, like the Meadow that was Edwards special spot that he should to Bella, in the movie it wasent like that at all. And when Bella escaped the hotel to James, they made it seem so simple, when in reality it was so hard for her to get out. I just hope in the next movie “New Moon” they have more detail it would make it a lot better.

i was also very happy with the adaptation. i think they could have had a few more scenes establishing the relationship… “blood-typing” would have been good to help the viewer buy into why he’s so protective of her.
Overall, though, I was very pleased. I thought it was lovely.
I am also, by the way, not a shrieking 12-year-old. I am a mom, and I am 27.
I also hated the 5th Harry Potter because it was shallow, so I think M. Rosenburg did a better job than whoever did that screenplay.
I look forward to New Moon, and I hope Summit gives them a much bigger budget so that they can pull off making Jacob’s transformation believable.

I liked the movie. Everyone is going to say there is something about a movie that they would change. The actors were good. Leave it to someone to try and drag down what is actually good. Kristen Stewart is an amazing actress and she’s only 18. That girl has talent. Robert Pattinson is a good looking, talented actor that can do a variety of movie roles and still make it look good. Books will have more details than movies. Remember people, that many pages in a book can’t all fit into a 2 hour time slot.

The movie was ok. Could they do more? yes.
I think that fans got a WHOLE lot of more out of the movie than the non-readers.
I think for most fans, it was just fun to see the book come to life.

I have seen the morvie 4 times. I will agree that the first time I saw it I kept making notes of the differences in the book and the movie. However, after getting over that I really enjoyed it. I realize it cannot be the same as the movie or it would be 5 hours long. I wish it were longer but I am realistic. I loved it and look forward to the next 3.

The movie was very interesting considering i had VERY high expectations. It was a lot like the book, though they deleted a lot of scenes; then again it was only a 2 hour movie. I liked it a lot. It could have been better, all in all, it was good.
Robert is freaking sexy as hell. (not as hot as the Edward described in the book) but still bangin’ gorgeous!

I am a non-reader. I went with my sister who is a reader and I loved the movie. I thought it was great and now I am reading the books and look forward to the next movie.

OK, so it wasn’t the book. To do that you would need to make a 6 hour movie. (I also am not a teen, so to me, they were “just books")
That being said, I thought Robert Pattinson did a wonderful job of conveying the tragic, conflicted Edward Cullen to the audience. He added some depth of emotion to the roll and made me feel what Edward was about. Kristen Stewart also did a good job of bringing the awkward, yet strong Bella to life. Without these two actors it would have been one of the weakest of teen flicks. They were able to convey the emotion and spirit of the books.
Sure, there were some silly lines, but they were lines directly from the book. All in all, I give it a thumbs up.
Props also to Cam Gigadet! To bad that was the end of the best villian!
I personally adore Kristen Stewart. I think she portrayed Bella in her ackwardness very well. I do wish they wouldn’t have rushed the bond with Bella and Edward, that is what made me fall in love with the novel. I thought the movie was great though. I hope they can emphasize that in New Moon. I love Robert Pattinson and all the other Cullens. I can not wait for the next one!!!!

Ok. I have only one thing to comment on after watching the movie: the first kiss!
When their lips finally touched after what felt like a gajillion years of them leaning in for it, that had the be the most satisfying on-screen liplock I’ve ever experienced in my 26 years of existence.

i too saw the movie 3 times over the weekend, i enjoyed watching the movie come to life, yet i wished it could have been longer and by what everyone else is saying im not alone. i do hope that new moon has more details than twilight did, the main thing that attracted me to the books was the love connection between Edward( the love of my life) and Bella. but all in all EVERY ONE of those actors did a GREAT job and we just need to appreciate what they did and stop talking about what they did wrong. I loved it and ill be buying it when it hits the shelves!

Nothing is ever better then the book. Stephenie Meyers wrote such an intimate story with amazing feelings that you can’t get all of that in a movie. I have seen the movie 7 times and I’m going back for more. It really does get better the more times you see it. You just have to sit back and enjoy the fact you’re watching Twilight and it won’t be the same but it still has important moments. If you nitpck & comment on every scene that’s missing then you won’t like it, but if you take it for face value that it’s the movie version you should like it. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rob and Kristen. I’m going to see it again on Wednesday and then Saturday. Who knows how many more times. Just give it a chance.

The first time I watched the movie I was a bit critical of it, the second time I felt more relaxed I was not concerned of what they missed or what they included from the book and I enjoyed it so much more… The third time I noticed all kinds of little details that show how much love and dedication was put into this movie. It is impossible to have every little scene and dialog from the book in the movie. Ideas were consolidated in smart ways; the essence of the characters, the chemistry between Bella and Edward, the pain and conflict from Edward are all there. (Robert Pattinson was outstanding!) Can’t we just be thankful to have Twilight the movie?! I’m certainly thankful that Bella was not turned in to a famous pop singer as the original movie script read.

I went into the theater with mixed view points on what the movie would be like. It turned out to be the most incredible experience! I was not expecting it to be so good. I went with about 14 friends, some had not even read the books and they loved it. I watched in astonishment as my favorite book was brought to life on the big screen and the only thing I want is more!! The acting was incredible...you could actually feel Edwards torment in Rob’s emotions. Kristen was a fantastic Bella, perfect in every way. I feel so lucky to have been able to see this movie and I will see it over and over again! Twilight has become a household name and this movie just reinforces all the hype!!!

I think the movie was wonderful. I saw it twice over the weekend and I’m going back for more. I’m a huge fan of all of the books and I think Robert and Kristen did an amazing job; I don’t think I have ever seen a kissing scene with more passion and emotion! By the way I am a 34 yr old mother of two and I think every woman I know has a huge crush on Edward! I can’t wait for the other three movies.

Not everything in the book can be put into a movie. There are some things that people just can’t put into a movie. No matter how many high tech gadgets they use. Yes I know it is a bit disappointing that not every scene and every move and every lines were the same but that doesn’t make the movie bad. Imaginations used in a book may not have limits...but movies do. Personally....the movie’s great.

Are you kidding people?! Kristen Stewart was beyond belief BAD in the movie. Her voice and facial expressions had one tone/pose throughout the entire film. Haven’t read the book, but the character felt flat and completely disengaging on screen. I kept wondering why is he even interested in her besides the fact that he can’t read her mind....big deal!?! She needs serious acting lessons and also I felt she was a bit butch in certain scenes, especially if she needs to convey the fragile flower, who courts his protection. I say drop her and keep him!

Im a fan of the saga and was skeptical before I even stepped in the theater. But instead of being pleasantly surprised, what little hope i had was completely deflated. Bad acting, no development of plot, out of place music, and quite frankly I didnt like the directing either. It all felt so… Forced. and I say that without even comparing it to the book. But i think the key thing about the book is that when you read it, you totally lose yourself to the story. In the theater, there was not one moment that I forget I was watching a movie.. and a bad one at that....
All that said, I think with a more money and a change in direction, the second book still has lots of potential to be made a great film.

Really? Most fans that I know(and I know many) were happy with it.
