Art Girls Invade LA

LA Art Girls is a feisty artist collective that could be best described as a cross-pollination of the camaraderie of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and the acerbic moxy of Jezebel -- though even that would be an oversimplification. Since its inception four years ago, LA Art Girls has hosted panel discussions and presented exhibitions featuring the work of the collective's members; the latest is Phantom Galleries LA.
The gallery space itself is unique in that it displays work on vacant storefronts in a bid to bring art to the people (and make the available retail space more alluring for prospective proprietors). The LA Art Girls’ show LAAGAFBLA08 (short for “Los Angeles Art Girls Art Fair Biennale L.A. 2008") transformed Phantom Galleries into an outdoor gallery/street fair between two downtown LA locations, featuring works from Sydney Croskery, Tricia Avant, and 25 other artists. Opening tomorrow night at 6 p.m. and running through August 20, the exhibition is presented in two locations: 6th Street and Main Street, and 6th Street and Los Angeles Street.
