Influx of Men’s Fashion Rags Hits Asia
September 19, 2008
Asian men now have a few new style bibles to peruse when hitting their local newsstands. This fall sees the launch of not one but two Asian offshoots of established Western fashion rags. Vogue Homme has launched a Japanese version, with stylist and seasoned Dazed & Confused contributor Nicola Formichetti as its fashion director. Following suit, L'Officiel Hommes has launched an incarnation in Singapore.
The development seems a natural one, considering women’s fashion tomes like Vogue, Elle, and W have numerous Asian editions these days. And as the Asian fashion market continues to expand, so does the fashion magazine industry. It’s good news for the stylish worldwide, as Asian fashion rags, and those in Japan in particular, tend to feature some of the most envelope-pushing editorials around. On the flip side, Asian-originating men’s magazines like Men’s Ex are likewise making a splash stateside. The only drawback: Finding a copy is a feat in and of itself.
