Band of Brothers at the Avalon
Where saints and sinners become friends and lovers.
October 22, 2007

It was early in the evening when the brothers Felice (Ian, James, and Simone, with a “blood brother” on bass) took the stage in the former house of the Lord, which converted more recently to a den of Sin. The ragged band of brethren proved that they are likely to take the mantle as the next Great American Storytellers, with verse evoking a meeting of Dylan and John Prine. It was an authentic saloon-stompin’ set, even if the crowd stood still. “We hear CMJ is a bunch of stiffs,” yelled out the man at the kit. Silence (perhaps approval). “Well, take off your badges and dance.” Exactly. —D.C.
