Bawdy Shots
Artists get smutty with an aesthetic ménage a six at Salomon Contemporary.
August 01, 2007
Finally, art we can sink our perverted teeth into! The nasty—our juvenile term, not theirs—gets creative in "Sex & Sensuality," an upcoming show at Salomon Contemporary in East Hampton. Featuring paintings and sculptures by Cecily Brown, Will Cotton (right, The Only Paradise is Paradise Lost), Eric Fischl, Nir Hod, Billy Sullivan, and Su-en Wong, the exhibition vacillates between representations of sex as hedonistic booty call, youthful libido, and spiritual connection. Instead of PTA didacticism, however, these sex—sorry, six—artists create a mood, and allow audience members the freedom to draw their own conclusions. Trust us though, no matter how you slice it, everyone's guaranteed their own happy ending. —Nick Haramis
Reception for the artists, August 18 from 6-8 p.m., Salomon Contemporary Warehouse, 6 Plank Road, Unit 3, East Hampton; exhibition on through Labor Day, by appointment only, 917-617-0828.
