Beware the Super V-Neck
June 25, 2008
Be very afraid: They are already among us. Of course I'm referring to the puzzling new t-shirt trend called "the deep V," a basic V-neck with a plunging neckline. "Donning a deep V-neck T-shirt to a summer party may scream 'sexy and confident' to the fashion elite, reports Radar. "But to others it simply bellows, 'Look at me and my chest hair!' Those too young to remember the 1970s should be reminded: This is not a good thing." Kempt calls the trend a "misguided ode to the dude sternum." American Apparel has 12 V-neck styles, while Urban Outfitters offers eight, including the "Super V" shown above -- "a 27-inch neckline from shoulder to hem." In other words, it's halfway to a vest.
