Bleached Eyebrows Still Big, How To DIY

European fashion magazines agree: bleached eyebrows are as big a beauty trend as ever. It was early last year when the barely-there brow craze first broke, and by July of 2009 it had made a splash big enough to hit the New York Times‘ Style Section under the title ‘Where Have All the Eyebrows Gone?‘ But, it doesn’t seem to be disappearing… errr, eyebrows reappearing for that matter, anytime soon. LOVE‘s latest issue, which features a slew of different cover stars–from Agyness Deyn to Lauren Hutton–includes not only one but three brow-less faces. Gisele Bundchen, Sienna Miller, and Alessandra Ambrosio all appear with visibly bleached-out eyebrows for LOVE‘s fourth issue. French Vogue is following suit with its September issue.

On it, Marion Cotillard is pictured in heavy makeup, looking decidedly Marlene Dietrech-esque, minus her eyebrows. The same goes for Harper’s Bazaar Russia’s September cover. Looking to try the style yourself but don’t want to fork over serious dough at a proper salon? DailyCandy’s Photo Editor Nicola Kast recently perfected an at-home method (at least for light to dark brunettes) that costs mere pennies dollars and is basically fool-proof. It turns out, facial bleach (typically intended for hiding lady ‘staches) is a good way to go. “I just mixed some of the paste together and applied it onto my eyebrows thickly, making sure not to get too close to my eyelids,” Kast says of her at-home treatment. “Because of the color of my eyebrows I left on the paste a little longer, and then scraped off the goop with the little mixing spatula.” As for the final verdict: “I loved the outcome! Apparently it freaked out my friends, but I think it’s an awesome look if you want to change things up a little here and there.”
