The Bonnaroo Hippie’s Packing Checklist
June 11, 2009
There are a lot of things you don't know about BlackBook. The most pertinent for my purposes is that a select few BlackBook staffers fly the hippie flag. Some do it in secret, while others are more open about their counterculture-supporting, jam band-loving ways. One particular, much adored member of the team is currently on a mission from a higher power, following Phish from appearances in New Jersey, rolling down the interstate to The Farm in Manchester, Tennessee. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival kicks off tomorrow, and I'm sucking in all of my big-city lovin' pride, throwing on my cutoff jean shorts, and making the trek down south. Perhaps because I'm not as free-spirited as some of my workplace comrades, right now, I'm solely concerned with what to pack for my virgin Bonnaroo experience.
Of course, my main objectives are 1) finding my inner peace, folk-rock loving ways and whatnot; 2) enjoying the completely stellar, hippie-meets-hipster lineup (Phish, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Passion Pit, Of Montreal, etc.); and 3) preparing myself for the physical discomfort that awaits (weekend high is 86 degrees, no AC, camping, limited bathing facilities).
To tackle #3, I invested in/borrowed some much-needed accessories, to keep warm/cool/shaded, while keeping in mind that showing off a sense of style is always important but being comfortable even more so. Also, a guy once told me that, “I’m only packing a carry-on” was the sexiest thing I’d ever said to him. This idea definitely applies, so here’s a sampling of my packing list.
● American Apparel Flex Fleece Zip Hoody - $25
● TopShop Shiny Frill Bandeau Bikini - $25
● AM Eyewear Cobra Jamo Sunglasses with Gold Chain - $163
● WetSeal Thigh High Tube Sock - $5
● Hunter Original tall wellington boots - $115
● American Apparel’s Duffel Bags - $29
I’m not going to forget my credit-card hippie style in packing for comfort. I’m throwing in shorts, shorts, shorts, light fabrics (linen, cotton), comfy T’s, paisley and flowing dresses. Yes, maybe even some tie-dye. Why not live a little? More Bonnaroo news to come.
● James Perse Evergreen Vneck T-shirt - $50
● Modcloth Paisley Full of Pockets Dress - $48
● AE Cut-off Denim Shorty Shorts - $30
● Delia’s Lesley Denim Vest - $35
● Anthropologie Skyward Tank - $68
● TopShop Crochet Tie-Dye Dress - $32
● Forever21Shandy Basketweave Belt - $9
● Forever21 Linked Center Belt - $6
