Canny And Zooey

Zooey Deschanel’s Wikipedia entry describes her as an American actress and singer. Aren’t they all. But wait—upon further review it appears she actually is a singer, and a legitimate one to boot. On top of singing in no less than five of the movies in her still-young filmography, the Hollywood-bred pixie is strapping on her moonlighting gear as one half of the sing-songy chamber pop duo She & Him. The other half is singer-songwriter M. Ward, and the pair has already booked a gig at this month’s South by Southwest festival in support of their new album Volume One, out March 18th on Merge Records. —B.B.
