Idealism peaks with a new literary magazine named after a Dennis Leary (no, not that one) restaurant.

In a letter to promote Canteen, his new literary magazine, publisher Stephen Pierson writes, groan apparent, “Yes, a literary magazine (i.e., how dull… ).” But to Pierson we say, Pick up your socks, man. Because, contrary to the popular misconception that equates literary criticism with sapless paint, this one’s a thrilling grassroots gem.

Featuring stunning photography and Adrian Tomine-inspired sketches, the publication also balances between fiction and its truth-telling analog. In its first two issues, the magazine has featured contributions from Warhol photographer and motel buff Stephen Shore, author Joyce Maynard, and onetime Paris Reviewer Andrew Greer.
