CMJ: Mark Ronson Appears

Last night at SOB's, Allido Records brought it hard with their CMJ lineup. While most people were there to see the DC rapper Wale, I went for Aussie Daniel Merriweather. He's probably best known for lending his vocals to Mark Ronson's "Stop Me," but there's a Ronson-produced album called Love and War coming out any day now. Onstage, Merriweather had nothing if not style, in a skinny tie and a watch fob hanging out of a slate-gray suit, with sleeves pushed up to show a forearm tattoo.
He went on over an hour late and rushed the first few songs, but that didn’t hinder his crooning capabilities. You could practically hear the ladies sigh when he sang, “my clothes smell like cigarettes and they used to smell like you” off the song “Cigarettes.” He got more comfortable when Ronson, who spent the set like a proud father bopping off to the side, joined him onstage to play a white electric sitar on the song “Possibly.” At the end of the short set (which included a whistling solo), Merriweather thanked the crowd and said he’ll see us soon. Hopefully he’s not lying, ‘cause the kid’s got talent. Now if we could just hear that album ...

Hey
Nice write up again, you always do him justice!! Jealous u were there, but UK to NYC not that easy just to see my favourite man!!
The whistling song is called “impossible” and is my favourite so far. It has been mentioned that it might be his first single, possibly january 09. Album is due out april 09. feels like we have been waiting forever doesnt it, its been well over a year now maybe a year and a half. More for those who were on tha ball way back in 2003/2004!!
His voice just gets me. Can listen to it all day every day and not found someone like that in years. The boy certainly has something special!! glad you see it too!! xx
