Did Conan O’Brien Go Overboard by Showing Us His Injury?

I know that we're living in the Age of Obama, and thus transparency, but on last night's Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien took his audience through a play-by-play of his recent head injury, and it was easily the most nauseating thing I've ever seen on late night, not counting every Jay Leno monologue, ever. It was only a matter of time before footage of the incident surfaced (since it took place while cameras were rolling on Friday's show), but I didn't expect O'Brien to show it himself, not to mention take us along on a thorough account of the cringe-worthy disorientation and side effects he endured afterward.
After the truly hard-to-watch clip of O’Brien falling and smashing the back of his head on the floor, he gets up and tries to continue by running an instant replay. He slurs his words, and is clearly out of it. He tells us that when he tried to read the prep cards for his interview with Seth McFarlane, it was like reading “the menu of an Egyptian restaurant.” He said to producers “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, I don’t know what this is.” That’s scary stuff, especially in the wake of Natasha Richardson’s seemingly innocent but ultimately fatal head injury earlier this year. The scariest part came when O’Brien revealed that he struggled to tell his producers what year it was. The audience was laughing, and it’s probably because O’Brien was sitting before them in fine health, but that ain’t funny. This can be justified only by its newsworthiness, because Conan will probably do anything to steal ratings away from Dave, even if it’s only for eight minutes. Watch the clip below and chime in. Too much head trauma talk for a ha-ha show?

Obama? transparency? Well he says it but will not release visitor logs of the white house, much like Bush. He does not want you to see which bankers stopped by to get free money. Transparency? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Conan, Jay and Fallon have something in common. None of them are ever funny.

Interesting. If you thought this was in such poor taste, then why are you showing the footage to back your article? If Conan chose not to show the footage, then you (along with Colbert) would have probably claimed it was all a false publicity stunt. He’s damned if he does or doesn’t.

Conan’s tonight show is just lacking. I notice more often than not, the guest leave after their interview, unlike on Carson’s / Leno’s Tonight Show where they moved down the couch. Some of the funniest moments used to be the spontaneous interactions that occurred between guests. “The show must go on” apparently no longer applies in show business. When Letterman got sick in 2007 with the flu, he had his guest for that night, Adam Sandler fill in. Terri Hatcher or ANdy Richter could have substituted and broke the news instead of repeating a two month old episode.

Wow! You probably have no idea how much of whiner you sound. The footage wasn’t sickening, there was no blood or gore. It merited an empathetic cry of “ouch” but if you believe it to be nausea inducing, then you should really examine yourself because that certainly isn’t the attitude of the majority. Honestly, I think the problems you have with Conan replaying are just projections of your already biased distaste for Conan that probably doesn’t come from honest attempts to watch him but from following the tastes of a crowd of people you value, those that you have chosen to be elite! My distaste with your piece isn’t because of the expression of distaste against Conan, but because it, like so many other articles, especially political ones, reeks of bias - something that does not allow for honest reporting, and that just plain sucks.

I think people do want to know about it. But it was
sickening seeing(and hearing) his head hit the floor twice.
I didn’t find it or the details at all funny.
