Eco-Friendly Fashion Like You’ve Never Seen It

Sustainability has been a buzzword in the fashion industry for seasons. But keeping the concept fresh has proved a difficult barrier in the road towards fashion truly going green. Interestingly enough it was school uniforms that sparked a recent eco-friendly undertaking titled The Uniform Project, in which Sheena Matheiken took on the challenge of reinventing the same dress every day for an entire year. Armed with one dress, as well as a wide array of accessories and options for layering, Matheiken embarked on "a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India."

As Jason Kottke points out, the genius of the project and the images (documenting each daily outfit) that accompany it revolve around the fact that “you can see how versatile the dress is and how clever Matheiken is in accessorizing it.” Meaning, the endeavor offers a unique approach to the recession-born concept of shopping ones closet. In other words, it may just inspire you to give certain articles of clothing a second chance.
