Fallon on Hard Times?

"This is Late Night, with Jimmy Fallon!" Nope, sounds weird. We can't tell if Jimmy Fallon taking over for Conan O'Brien as host of Late Night on NBC is a signal that his post-"SNL" career is officially a bust, or rather a beacon of renewal for the comedy star. Considering that the comedian left "SNL" to pursue a film career, perhaps accepting the Late Night spot is a sign of defeat. Nothing is confirmed yet, but when "insiders" start whispering to news outlets, the deal is all but done. We're still weary of how Conan's move to the soccer-mom-attracting Tonight Show will affect his panache for downright disturbed gags, but Fallon should fare well in the 12:30 slot. His messy hair and bashful sincerity should win back the crowd who rebelled against him for making Taxi. He's proved gifted at monologue delivery (remember Weekend Update with Tina Fey?), and his guests will like him, for sure. But following Conan O'Brien is not a simple task. Just ask Carson Daly.
