Fashion Industry Catches the Movie Bug
December 19, 2008
The fashion industry has collectively embraced its inner cinephile this year. First, Tom Ford announced his plans to direct (the fruits of which will produce the star-studded adaptation, The Last Man). Now fashion photographer Tim Walker has announced he'll do the same (his first feature film is slated to debut next fall). Karl Lagerfeld hopped aboard the bandwagon with his (sleepy) silent film, which pays homage to his house’s namesake, Coco Chanel. Vogue will be canonized in a film soon to debut at Sundance entitled The September Issue. And, now, of course, ubiquitous model Agyness Deyn, who not so long ago added DJ and songstress to her resume, is starring in a short artsy film, Dance of the Golden Axe, for the New York Times’ The Moment blog.

And Aggy’s not the only major model to have graced the silver screen in 2008. Gemma Ward starred in not one but two films (The Strangers and The Black Balloon). Also getting into the filmmaking game: Brit fashion label Toast. “The mini-movie, now on the Toast website, is based on the crew’s adventures as they photographed the autumn/winter 2008 catalog in Slovakia and Hungary,” says the Telegraph. And, as if that wasn’t enough fashionable film for you, right on trend Grazia has put together round-up of the most stylish movies from 2008.
