Fashion Week: Bows Are Big for Spring

For his sophomore collection, Prabal Gurung (a designer who's been dubbed 'one-to-watch' by many a fashion rag) outfitted a number of his SS10 garments with a few small and one distinctly over-sized, silk version. Marc Jacobs topped off his Marc by Marc Jacobs mannequins with ones which called to mind Minnie Mouse like headgear. And Duckie Brown proved that they can be manly, fastening them at the waist of loose fitting shorts in a shade of pale blue. Put simply, bows are popping up all over fashion week.

Not quite cutesy (although in the case of Jacobs’ it could be seen as such), the look is more about eschewing in a softness and a femininity for spring. It’s no wonder critics like Cathy Horyn have been proclaiming this fashion week one chock-full of hopeful collections. After quite a bit of moody doom and gloom (not to mention severe embellishments by way sequins and studs), it seems fashion is once again ready to embrace a softer image for spring… men included.
