Fledgling Fashionista Tavi Appeals to Tween Blog-Haters

In a post yesterday, style blogger Tavi paid tribute to her teenage, fashion-blogging peers -- Cheetos Are Orange, Childhood Flames, Hand it Over, and Intellectuals Read Vogue Too, among others. The 12-year-old blogger I’ve mentioned in the past has serendipitously become the poster-child of pre-pubescent, style-loving online scribes. In the post, not only does she highlight half-a-dozen standout style blogs penned by an under-18 set -- Tavi defends the entire adolescent fashion-blogging community.
“I hope this doesn’t come off as a Disney star trying to be taken seriously ... you might not know any 12 year olds who know who Yohji Yamaoto is, but, well, I’m surrounded by 12 year olds ever day – and I do.” She goes on to argue: “younger bloggers are on a tighter budget. We don’t have closets filled with designer items, and it’s so much easier to make Chanel look good than it is to make a stained dress from the Salvation Army look good.” Not news perhaps, but nonetheless refreshing to have new, unadulterated perspectives when it comes to fashion. And it’s not like the industry can ever get enough to satisfy its youth obsession.
