Fantastic article!  Why doesn’t the NY times do an article like this.  The budget deficit in NY will be huge next year...time to let businesses get licenses and get to business creating tax revenue.  Wake up Albany!!! You have a gold mine in NYC and you need to be smarter in this environment.

If there are more than 2,000 liquor licenses in limbo and each license could mean at least 6 jobs per license, then the SLA could enusre that 12,000 people had jobs during a recession. Construction jobs would go up as the spaces were fixed up, not to mention restaurant, retail and taxi jobs.

And all these people would be able to spend money and pay taxes. If the governor wants a quick way to stimulate the economy, he should focus on clearing the backlog in the SLA.

Steve, thank you for writing various articles about the SLA. You are right on the money! Not to mention the fact that the SLA nowadays listens to the community board’s recommendation to give out a license about 99% of the time rather then tailor their own decision based on the applicant.
It’s scary that a few old bags on a community board have power to grant a liquor license...meaning they have the power to decide whether or not to create jobs and tax revenue.

One thing you’re wrong about though, the SLA website is extremely popular, it’s got more hits than google and youtube combined…
