NPC Booms & Chloë’s Alright

The Nightlife Preservation Community event at M2 was by all accounts a smashing success. Thousands of people came out to enjoy the amazing talent. The politicians that came were enlightened as to the realities of the numbers of voters who enjoy nightlife. With over a million names at our fingertips (after overlap it should end up being over 700,000 dedicated names), nightlife will become very political. Politicians who favor fair treatment for the business of clubs, patrons, and hundreds of thousands of employees will have their campaign efforts supported by email blasts. Community groups and government agencies will have access to our names as well.
The DJ heroes were too numerous to mention. I will say this: there was an hour and a half or so when Q-tip went into Funkmaster Flex who went into Louie Vega, and no one left the floor. Hip hop and house to the same crowd, and everybody dances? We have, over the last decade, labeled ourselves into a corner. Good DJs hold he floor. If the party is really a party, everybody has fun.
The only negativity to come out of the event was an article written by a newbie over at Page 6. In an effort to sell papers, she missed he point. Everyone at the NPC is happy with Chloë Sevigny. She was our gracious hostess, and she posed for pictures in front of the step-and-repeat. She said “hey” to politicians and everyone in sight. She could have gone on stage with the politicians, but she didn’t have to. She would have done anything we asked. Instead they put me up there in her place because they wanted to pat me on he back and show everyone that I cleaned up good in my tux. I read Page 6 religiously and have great respect for them, but looking for a cloud in a silver lining is beneath them.

they don’t typically miss the point, but “looking for the cloud in a silver lining” is exactly what page 6 does, if not constantly than at least notably.

I think the tie in with and exposure of politicians to the amount of people that support, participate, and work in nightlife is a great idea. The support of political campaigns through email blasts, facebook groups, etc, all things tied into nightlife promotion is a genius idea. Life is all about the network that you create for yourself.
