Pop Goes the Beatrice Inn
Steve Lewis
April 06, 2009
Beatrice Inn owner Paul Sevigny called me to tell me that he had been padlocked. It wasn’t an unexpected event since the celebrity boîte had been plagued mostly by its setup, which initially put them between a rock and a hard place. With neighbors all around, Paul's crowd, which has an unusually high percentage of smokers, made more noise than some neighbors were willing to endure. The Beatrice Inn took many steps to make their presence not just bearable but also a positive thing. In reality, the Beatrice Inn enjoys a very solid relationship with the surrounding community. Rumors circulated around town about the reasons for the shutdown -- one with considerable legs claimed that "Kate Moss had been popped in her delicious nose and there was blood.” Another more plausible rumor had ex-Page 6 contributor Chris Wilson taking the pop. My source on this said that this actually did happen but inquiring cops couldn’t pin down a suspect due to "the high number of people with motive.”
Most people were saying it was smoking and/or underage drinking violations. Paul Sevigny told me late last night that it was actually building code violations, but since this matter will be before the courts soon, Paul couldn’t say much. He did point out the irony of the violations, since the Beatrice has been operating pretty much the way it looks now under that name since 1926. It has been a joint for a hundred years prior to that. It was a speakeasy at one point.
Beatrice is one of the best spots in town, continuously attracting A-listers and trendsetters. Paul points out that to the regulars, “the place was their living room and it’s basically like locking them out of their apartments.” He is looking forward to the “Free the Beatrice” party, which will be held this coming Thursday or Friday at an undisclosed location.

Cry me a river, Mr. Lewis. And think again re that “very solid relationship with the surrounding community.” We Beatrice neighbors are happy to see it go, as the constant untenable noise level effectively locked US out of our apartments in that sleep was impossible between 12 and 5am. I’m sure the “A-listers” and “trendsetters” you so revere will have no trouble finding other “living rooms.”

Haven’t stopped by this place since it attracted the likes of Emily Brill, Devorah Rose and Kristian LaLiberte. Sad what NYC has become. If this is the A-list, the town is officially dead.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

He has no “relationships” in Tribeca at Smith and Mills either. These guys hate on their neighbors. They fabricated a story at belongs in the movies on Carlos Almada to put him in breach of a 32 year lease after they cheated and stole from them after they had a fire and nearly burnt the house down. Turns out this was over building issues involving Beatrice Inn, not Smith and Mills. So it is not only their “business model” is flawed, they were never financed which caused all of their troubles. Omitting Matt Abramcyk’s name does not mitigate he has filed suit against Carlos and Victoria or John Buck in each instance regarding building issues now this. So no, no relationships with anyone. Who goes after their neighbors at Beatrice, Smith and Mills and John Buck at the Pizza Cafe?

This club had it 15 mins and glad to se they are over. The sad way they pretended it was a “private party” every night was a joke amongst EVERYONE in town especially the “A-Listers”!! Everyone knows NY needs to be saved but clubs like this wont do it. There was no stage, bad music, silly attitude. The owners are cool but the club was a sad cash cow for them. And for the record, I work inside NY City hall and they are making sure this place does not open again. NY is about art not sad wanna-be mindless drug monsters like the tacky euro models, trying to hard misshapes and old school rejects like anyone that worked for Mr.Lewis in his ruling NY days, and everyone else that hung out at this poser haunt. Let new things come and old things go---far away.

The owners were total posers too. Matt Abramcyk has never been on a list much less the “A” list. What is so funny is he pretends he was ever a hedge fund guy or made million when he bottomed out, lost all of his parent’s and there friends money and thinks he can draw off this reference. I feel sorry for the woman above Smith and Mills or “Camp Bea”.

And now the latest on Matt Abramcyk....... Matt Abramcyk was just caught lying to a judge on Carlos Almada and Victoria Hillstron. Everything this kid does is based on lied. He can’t even tell the truth to a judge!!! She caught him lying conspiring to rob Carlos Almada and Victoria Hillstron of their lease at 71 N Moore aka 385 Greenwich above Smith and Mills. This guy is a total loser!

my comment - not true, the establishment does not “enjoy a very solid relationship...” with the neighborhood - most patrons seem to come from tribeca, UES, LES, williamsburg, new jersey or a hotel in midtown.
