A Standard Party for ‘Interview’ Magazine

Considering this town's recent construction calamities, logic (and Providence) dictates that a construction site might not be the best place to hold a party. An Olsen severed in two wouldn't be good for business. But do you think hotelier Andre Balazs and Interview magazine care about people's safety?! F*ck no! Which is why the penthouse bar in the unfinished Standard Hotel was the site of the mag's "A New Look" party, whatever that means.

From the outside, the hotel stood as a dead monolith, save for the top floor which was bathed in red lighting disrupted by frequent camera flashes. Security was tight, and getting in was a challenge, and without the help of an old friend, it may not have happened. Avoiding metal wires dangling from the ceiling, it was up to the top floor in an unfinished elevator with Terry Richardson, who led an impromptu rendition of “Happy Birthday” for his friend and Waverly Inn co-owner Sean MacPherson. Once inside, guests like Mary-Kate Olsen, Lauren Hutton, Tommy Hilfiger, and Diane Von Furstenberg snack on delights from a makeshift Nobu kitchen, while men in tights vogue onstage. Later, topless Elvira spawn painted in technicolor sashay on stage, while one of them is devoured by a shark-like dildo apparatus. Panoramic views of the city abound, and when Mr. Balasz is asked about the fate of this cavernous room, he responds, “It’ll be a bar slash lounge.” Hazard-free, I assume.
