Fidel Castro for Adidas

Fidel Castro doesn't immediately come to mind in terms of fashionable world leaders. Sartorially speaking, the dictator is most widely associated with the bland, olive green army garb he's been sporting since the 60s. But in recent years things have changed. Like most octogenarians, Castro is turning to comfort these days ... although not without keeping chic. According to The Pop, Castro has developed a distinct penchant for Adidas track suits.

He’s been wearing them much so that the rag ponders whether or not the German sportswear company could in fact be sponsoring the Cuban dictator. “But that’s highly unlikely of course, and it’s unclear whether a German sportswear giant like Adidas would want to support a leftwing politician like Fidel Castro. They much more prefer footballers like David Beckham and Christian Ronaldo,” says The Pop. As for his track suits of choice: Castro seems to prefer plain blue or plain red. But “Castro also has a white tracksuit version with blue stripes and red detailing, showing that his color coordination is not lost with age.” Regardless, it’s funny how Commie chic for the 80+ crowd currently channels what retirees in Fort Lauderdale have been wearing for decades. Can you blame them?
