The 8 million viewers who tuned into season 3 of MTV’s Jersey Shore probably noticed that the cast’s increasing popularity made it difficult for them to shake stalkers — much less stumble around anonymously — in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. To combat this growing problem, MTV is sending the cast members to the one place where they probably have the least fans — Italy.
Less than halfway through the show’s inaugural season, Italian-American residents in Staten Island began to voice complaints that their image was being tarnished by the cast and their wayward antics. Their anger and outrage eventually subsided, but now the cast will travel to Europe to piss off an entire country filled with real Italians.
According to Chris Linn, Executive VP of Programming for MTV, “The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.” Last time we checked, excessive fake tanning, grotesque use of hair gel, bejeweled attire, and a propensity to throw punches at your roommates and strangers does not make up the core of Italian culture.
Any bets on who will be deported first?
