High heeled types, music lovers, and those who love a good celebrity train weck, namely: everyone, have been anticipating Kanye West’s fashion show for months. It finally happened at a high school in Paris. Fashion heavy weights and celebs like Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Theory’s Olivier Theyskens, the Olsen twins, Silvia Fendi, Alexander Wang, Jared Leto, and Ciara turned up to the show to check out the competition, as well as all the high-level editors just waiting to make judgement. Was the line, named “Dw By Kanye West” after Donda West, his mother who passed away in 2007, a disaster? Amazing? Was it Lindsay Lohan’s jegging line 2.0, J. Lo for Macy’s all over again, an older version of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes’ line? Or was it more Gwen Stefani L.A.M.B. perfection or Justin Timberlake for William Rast coolness? Let’s take a look at the early word and a few snapshots.
The AP has the first official review on the show, which included a hooded jacket made of of crocodile skins, and plenty of leather skirts and dresses. While they talk more about what famous friends thought and the plans leading up to the line, it’s clear they like what they saw, describing it as ” a luxurious hard-edged women’s collection that bucked all the stereotypes about celebrity design.”
He has sat at enough runway shows to know good taste.

Erin Wilson from the New York Times seems confused:
“Though designers in Paris are presenting collections for next spring and summer this week, Mr. West’s collection was heavy on leather, fur and coats, some pieces dripping with so much fox you couldn’t tell if they were stoles or backpacks.”
Cathy Horyn, also from the NYT and notoriously tough, Tweeted “Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit. Models swimming in some looks. Kills the hot look, no?”
Christina Binkley, style columnist for the Wall Street Journal, also seemed confused, Tweeting “Anyone need a fur backpack for spring?” but later says “it’s good #Kanye West has a solid day job.”
