KCRW To Public: Wont’cha Give Me Money, Woah!

KCRW, everyone's favorite community public radio station with the best music and news shows is in the midst of its fundraising drive which runs till August 17. To employ a few cliches: the best things in life don't come free, and you get what you pay for. With that in mind, you don't get top-notch musical programming not heard anywhere else if you don't donate. Says Rachel Reynolds, the station's publicist: "Subscribers are the largest single source of income for KCRW and even though we know times are tough for a lot of people, we're asking our fans to donate whatever they can afford. The payoff is being a part of a station that supports new artists and offers high-quality live performances by some of the best bands on the planet (and members get the first chance at tickets for our events, like our night with Moby, which often sell out)."

The station’s DJs—Liza Richardson, Jason Bentley, Michael Barnes, Henry Rollins, among them—are serious music fetishists who bring a fresh mix to the radio every day. In the event that you can’t get enough of the station’s jocks online or over the air, many of them are busy playing live, in-person around town. Jason Eldredge spins tonight at the Standard Hotel for the Silverlake Wine Tastings from 5 to 8 p.m.. Also DJing around are Aaron Byrd, who is spinning with DJ Itai at the night OM, in Santa Monica at Zanzibar; and Jeremy Sole on the ones and twos for 944 mag’s nightlife issue at Loft Seven. And DJ Michael Barnes has a new Sunday night weekly at La Cita, 336 S. Hill St. downtown L.A.), called JuJu. He’ll be spinning 60s and 70s soul, funk, Latin, basically anything with a deep, funky grove that makes you dance. Best thing: it’s recession proof, and, thus, free.
