Lady Golfers Fashion Forward

Golfers have begun dressing, how do you say, sexier. It's nice. Very nice. Sometimes I find myself clicking through channels and landing on an LPGA tournament; I watch women's golf, and I'm comfortable with that. The more I watch, taking special notice of the more lithesome, stylish beauties in tight, colorful, eye-popping outfits (Natalie Gulbis, May Wood, Erica Blasberg), the more I realize that we're no longer in the baggy-short days of Nancy Lopez. Advancing this week's United States Women's Open, the New York Times got some fashion tips from the pros.

“There are a lot of choices in women’s golf apparel, but they’re not all functional,” says pro Morgan Pressel, who is sponsored by Ralph Lauren. “I’ve been in showrooms where they show me new trends in clothes. Once, it was a baggy short look. I said: ‘When I stand over a putt, I can’t have the end of my putter getting caught in a pair of baggy shorts. That’s not going to work.” But that doesn’t stop her from mixing form and function: “At the same time, we know on the LPGA Tour that we are judged by our clothes. What you wear says a lot about you.” So true!
