One-Night Stand at Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
September 11, 2009
For the first time ever, you can check out two famous New York landmarks at night, and it's one night only -- so get your tickets for the Night Visits of both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ASAP. These special events are in honor of National Public Lands Day on September 26 and will include dinner and a preview of Ken Burns’ new documentary The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, set to premiere September 27 on PBS. With the recent re-opening of the crown section of Miss Liberty herself, the Statue already has some buzz going on, and this would just make your visit a little bit cooler.
Though you can’t book a double feature, you can see them both in the moonlight. The Night Visit to Ellis Island will be on September 24, and the Night Visit to Liberty Island will be September 25. Boarding for both tours will begin at 6pm, with departure at 6:45pm. The tours will take place between 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets run $29 a pop. On a related note, for all of those who live near enough to a national park, admission is free all day on September 26. That’s 391 national parks to explore. Find one near you here.
