Meet Sonny Caberwal, World’s First Sikh Supermodel
April 07, 2009
According to the Telegraph, GQ may have launched the career of the world’s first Sikh supermodel, Sonny Caberwal. “In a spread, shot by Gregor Hohenberg, Mr. Caberwal, 30, poses in a black dinner jacket, black silk scarf and a pink turban. In another he wears a white tuxedo with a yellow sunflower and matching turban.” The inclusion is noteworthy considering the fact that, relatively speaking, Sikhs have received next to no exposure in popular culture (save for jewelry designer and actor Waris Singh Ahluwalia, who has popped up via various creative platforms).

“Mr. Caberwal, who was working as a business developer for IT companies while running his own tea firm, was discovered by Kenneth Cole, the American fashion designer, early last year,” says the Telegraph. So in addition to extremely good looks, the fledgling male model packs a stellar resume.
