Gad, it’s so true! MJ turned into a freak in the mid-90s but he was a brilliant musician and performer. Thriller is one of the best albums ever made. I knew we were witnessing the death of an icon of Elvis Presley’s status but I hadn’t thought of the fact that he was one of the last true musical icons we had left. And I’m talking pop icons; everybody liked some of his music from some era at some point. You can’t really say that about Bruce Springsteen or Mick Jagger. Maybe Paul McCartney is the last one? What a depressing thought…

on the phone with my mother earlier today, i said i’ve never been happier not to have a functioning tv than i am right now. i have seen no van or body bag, and i’m so glad for that. another of my relatives said she was staying home from work today because she expected to lose her shit if she heard one negative word about MJ. it’s nice that this extremely well-written and appropriate sendoff is really the only commentary i’ve read, seen or heard at all.
