Michelle Obama’s Fashion Reach Extends to Milan
September 30, 2009
It seems Michelle Obama's influence over sartorial trends has reached new lows ... just below the ankle that is. The First Lady became famous within the fashion community for wearing kitten heels, a style that's not been popular for quite a few terms of office. However, in Mrs. O's case, given expectations that she dress to accommodate certain sartorial conventions (not to mention the fact that stilettos would send her towering over the president), her preference for 1"-2" heels at max is highly understandable. But the fact that high-fashion heavyweights are embracing the trend is a bit more surprising. According to Style.com, from Marni and Missoni to Dolce & Gabbana, kitten heels are garnering new found acceptance. And "if yesterday in Milan is any evidence, the look may have legs."
In other Michelle Obama fashion news, it seems the First Lady’s penchant for supporting young designers hasn’t wavered. She recently wore a red dress from Moises de la Renta, whose line is MDLR (his initials). The choice is ironic considering it was only a few months back (when Mrs. O was in Paris sporting Alaia) that Oscar de la Renta, Moises’ father, was criticizing the First Lady for supporting European designers instead of American ones. Just more proof that the woman knows what she likes (kitten heels included) and doesn’t play to others’ expectations.

The author of this article got it wrong, The senior de la renta criticized Michelle Obama for wearing mostly Young American Designers and not the old standards. Please correct this.

i think her wearing of the kitten heels came at a time when a lot of young fashionable women were having babies. and many of these women didnt want to wear the high heels of before but did not want to wear flats all the time either so the kitten heel was a best choice.
