Nightswimming: BlackBook Does Hollywood!

November 21, 2008
The BlackBook edit staff decamped to the West Coast this week for our upcoming special Hollywood issue, embarking on a non-stop star-packed marathon of splashy (literally!) fashion shoots and do-tell-all interviews. We danced with Paparazzi (the 23-year-old next superstar deejay, that is) and tried not to gawk or stalk the many other awesome stars who crossed our paths. Hardest of all to resist: Morrissey, whose new album, due out early next year, we anxiously await. Several Morrissey sightings have left a resounding echo in our heads: the orchestral strains of "Everyday Is Like Sunday." Silent and grey, however, not so much.
Our LA days have been dappled with sunshine and warmth, from dancing ladies in special “magic caps” for sale on the Venice Beach boardwalk to the silvery space-age Thunderbird we saw glinting in the California sun. Even a mention of a Fabio sighting at Equinox in WeHo elicited not a punchline but a warm anecdote of a gentle giant. Our gracious host at the splendidly revamped Sunset Marquis told us about the time she had her hands full when approaching her car outside her hotel, and the man from a million romance novel covers appeared out of the blue before her, insisting on getting the door.
“Nightswimming" is the blog of Ray Rogers, BlackBook Editor in Chief.
