Openings: Angels & Kings, Chicago

If you'll forgive that the dude from (M)all Out Boy is part owner, new rocker bar Angels & Kings in Chicago's generally more upmarket River North should prove a good night out for those who can just never seem to decide between flash and trash. Indeed, in this Chicago outpost of the NYC hipster magnet of the same name (and not to be confused with Chicago's own Angels & Mariachis), calculatedly divey roadhouse elements bump right up against faux-Victorian pomp.
And the involvement of Chicago nightlife stalwarts Stephen and Matt Eisler pretty much assures you won’t ever walk in on a dullsville crowd—though you may find yourself sharing a neo-gothic couch with lip-synch princess Ashlee Simpson. Recurring GLBT and live-band karaoke nights are on the slate; but perhaps most curious of all, there’s a, um, gong behind the bar, which, if rung, entitles everyone to a free shot. Except Ashlee’s husband, of course, who, like, totally doesn’t drink and stuff.
