Openings: San Francisco InterContinental

San Francisco is arguably a bit light on sexy luxury hotels, so the stylish new InterContinental San Francisco arrives none too soon. Over in perpetually trendy SoMA, the gleaming blue-glass tower is meant to offer unobstructed visual access to the oh-so-lovely City by the Bay, making the surrounding scenery virtually an interior element (really, who needs wallpaper?). The hotel has 550 decidedly swish and high-tech rooms, with lots of wood, marble, and carefully chosen contemporary art. There’s also the compulsory chic dining spot Luce, which promises a gloriously epicurean marriage of Napa and Tuscany, and is replete with Italianate style elements. The mosaic-floored Bar 888 even manages to offer up a totally new hook: the most voluminous collection of grappas to be found anywhere in these United States. Expect the IC brand’s prodigious service from top to bottom.
