Project Runway Alums Dress Up Michelle Obama
November 07, 2008
In this post-election haze, the one question clearly weighing on the fashion industry’s collection conscience (mine included) has been: What will Michelle Obama wear to the Inaugural Ball? While it seems safe to assume the dress will come courtesy of an American designer, as has been a Michelle Obama constant up until this point, the rest is open for interpretation. Translation: In a day and age where competitions and reality TV are as commonplace as skyscraper stilettos (at least this season anyway), it’s the perfect impossible task to turn over to a few Project Runway alums. And, this is exactly what The Daily Beast did, before publishing the looks (and Simon Doonan's reactions) yesterday.
While some of the looks are far from likely as Inaugural dress contenders (from cheesy Miss America-appropriate gowns to a literal barrel embellished with stars and stripes), the winner is actually a look I could see First Lady-Elect Michelle Obama sporting. Judge for yourself here.

I just wanted to create a brand new post to introduce myself. My name is Eric and I came across this place through a quick Google and wanted to just say how-do-you-do. I would prefer to engage in future discussions and look onward to speaking with everyone.

Who won the challenge? I hope it was Malan’s piece—I liked it.
