Richard Kelly Shoots, Arcade Fire Scores

There’s been a poster floating around the net announcing the production of a film called S. Darko. One look at the freak bunny on said poster, and it becomes clear this is some sort of follow-up/desperate cash-grab sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Yesterday, that film’s director, Richard Kelly, denied any involvement with this project, claiming he no longer owns the rights to the original film and stands to make no money off the sequel.
More intriguing was his mention of a “very famous band” scoring his new film The Box. He wouldn’t name names, only saying that they’ve never worked with a filmmaker before. An official announcement is still forthcoming, but thanks to some stealthy sleuthing, Pitchfork has discovered that said band is none other than Can-rockers The Arcade Fire. The tip came via the website of producer/sound engineer Markus Dravs; under the heading “Currently working on,” it said, “ ... having finished Coldplay’s forthcoming album VivaLaVida - now off to Canada to work with Arcade Fire on a Sound-track for the forth coming Richard Kelly film ...”. We went to see the reveal for ourselves, only to find that Dravs is currently working on “new skills and tricks for ponys.” Someone must’ve been perturbed by Dravs’ hastiness. Was it Richard Kelly? Win Butler? Cameron Diaz? Expect the happy couple to make it official sooner rather than later.
