Rio Prepares for 2016 Olympics
October 06, 2009
Though it’s a bummer than Chicago didn't make it as the host for the 2016 games, Rio de Janeiro is by no stretch a poor substitute. In fact, I think the first-ever South American games will be pretty kick ass. I mean after all, they do host Carnival every year, so the games should be no sweat! Rio also seems to have addressed the biggest concern the IOC had for the host city -- the legendary traffic congestion. As you can see on their video, they plan to install high-speed transit to all the venues (one of which is at Copacabana!) and "a network of Olympic lanes." Book early for the beach volleyball; as you'll see on the clip, the views are spectacular.
