It's amazing to me that these reality shows have lasted as long as they have. I just don't get why people aren't tired of them yet? Hasn't the novelty worn off? As far as music videos... good thing we've got YouTube.

MTV needs to go back to the roots and have programs about music.

The version with the shortened "M" is ugly as shit. Why didn't they take the time to angle the sides? I don't care about the business decision but why take such an obvious step toward ugly? -DZG

I'm 31 and grew up on MTV in the 80's and 90's when they played music videos. I'm one of the few people who absolutely HATE "reality" TV. The affect it's had on MTV reminds me of a virus, slowly spreading and infecting until it just totally consumed the network with nothing but mindless GARBAGE! Yeah they had different shows here and there in the early years, but not to the point where it saturated every hour of the day. No wonder the music industry is in the horribly confused state it's in! They do have YouTube and other sites, but it's just not the same... Just proves how incredibly stupid people are.

Holy moly! I knew things were bad when my mom asked "what happened to MTV?" I got online to find out. I remember MTV with the spaceman and the flag! Stopped watching after leaving home in 92. It's shocking that this has actually happened. No more music television? The comment by MaverickAC sums it up perfectly. Dumbass society controlled by corporate greed. What's the next quick sell or cash cow? Who can we exploit? I don't even know the celebrities in "celebrity" magazines. I don't care about celebrities or about anyone who wants to be one! If you pay for cable you are a sucker.

I agree with a comment posted earlier...the 'M' looks like crap! Anyway, MTV has to decide if it is going back to music, streaming clips and featuring people that actually have talent, or it will continue in this downward reality television spiral! Next thing you know its going to change its name and icon to RTV (Reality TV)!!!

You know in the wake of Michael Jackson's death last year and given how MTV, inevitably, reacted respectfully to it (given his heyday practically MADE them) I almost vainly hoped that the network would remember how important and influential their original remit had actually been. And yet, by and large, they continue to use the 'this is what kids want in 2010' excuse for tripe like JERSEY SHORE and it's ilk not remembering that there was no accurate gauge back in 1981 to say that the kids of the day wanted a 24/7 channel dedicated to a then still developing promotional tool/artform (music videos) or that they're own execs back then fully believed that playing music videos by black artists was commercial suicide for their fledgling network......until they did and the rest was history. Too many channels rebranding and abandoning their original programming is a sign of complete creative cowardice and laziness.

The M in MTV should stand for moron so it can mean moron television. Or maybe MTV should change it DARSTV instead so that the name would be more representative of what they actually played, which Dumb Ass Reality Shows Television. The fact MTV is allowed to call itself a music channel is laughable. MTV was one of the reasons I got cable back the in the day when they used to play headbangers ball. I shouldn't have to get some other other MTV offshoot just to get a MTV that actually played music.
