Just wondering, but was “Butterfly in Reverse” by Counting Crows about this Marianne? I read somewhere that the “Marianne” lines were Ryan’s lines that he was dying to put in a song with Adam Duritz. It’s an absolute gorgeous song I think. Just wondering. Thanks

ugh, please don’t ruin Marianne Faithfull for me by comparing anything about her with anything that the “Counting Crows” have done.

The story I read about Ryan’s involvement with “Butterfly In Reverse” is that he mistook the line, “had a lot of girlfriends, I should have known then” to be, “had a lot of girlfriends, I should have known THEM.”

Him and Adam got a kick out of that so Adam left it and gave RA a writing credit. This interview is absolutely stunning.

And Hard Candy is one of the most listenable, lyrically beautiful records to come out in the last 10 years.

Ryan Adams’injury to his teeth was a result of running into a chain link fence while playing catch with his brother at his Jacksonville NC home. His injury was not the result of any abuse.
