Seeing as how the best part of spring is what nature provides—the leaves on the trees, beautiful flowers, and fresh foliage—I was inspired to seek out a more natural approach to skincare. Now, don’t get me wrong—when it comes to heavy results, a little ‘tox here and a little squirt there does a complexion good, but on a day-to-day basis, when city girls breathe in enough pollution on the way to work alone, it’s time to pay more attention to what we put in our bodies. And on our skin.
Start out with a pure palette—Tammy Fender Epi-Peel Formula No. E-517 ($80). From the guru of organic skincare comes this deeply detoxifying mask that you’ll want to leave on all day, although the recommended five minutes is plenty. Packed with rosemary, spearmint, and natural clay, this will give your skin’s foray into nature a fresh start.
Since winter is now longish-gone, it’s time for your skin to start looking (and acting) like it! Jump start the brightness with Fresh’s Appleseed Lightening Exfoliant ($60). Twice a week, treat your skin to a brightening plunge into citrus fruit acids, pomegranate seeds, apple seed oil, and mulberry root extract. One treatment rivals an afternoon at the spa!
After the dead skin overhaul, your epidermis will need tons of guarding, and, at the risk of saying that already ubiquitous word, antioxidant protection. I personally recommend Outdoor Meetings Summertime Moisturizer ($108), which works extra hard to keep your skin fresh through all those consecutive after-work happy hours.
The old adage is true—the eyes are the first to go—so it’s all about prevention, prevention, prevention! And since the eyes are one of your most precious assets, don’t take any risks when it comes to an eye cream—stick with nature. Enter Erborian Ginseng Infusion Eye Contour ($39), a light cream spiked with revitalizing ginseng, soothing ginger, and hydrating honey. It’s real “eye candy.”
I just love the looks of horror I get when I say, “Put oil on that oily skin!” But never fear: Clarins’s Lotus Face Treatment Oil ($46) is comprised of 100% pure essential oils, “good oils,” if you will. Use it one time and you’ll see what I mean—reduced oiliness, refined pores, and irritation no more. It even speeds up the healing of the occasional blemish. Acne will be but a distant memory in no time.
