Siren Festival: Still Sandy with Solid Acts

Since 2001, music fans have been venturing to Coney Island’s sea foam perimeters in Brooklyn to check out the Siren Music Festival. This year was no exception—despite the impressive line up of both Friday night’s Seaport show and of course Jelly’s Pool Parties with Crystal Antlers and Dirty Projectors on Sunday which could of steered attendance numbers away from Siren—droves of fans still made their way to the sand and Cyclone concert grounds. Siren is a festival where incredible up and coming bands can really make their mark. I remember the first time I made the trek, specifically to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in 2002, and ended up experiencing Karen O spitting swigs of beer. She certainly left an impression on me, the music world well, and a bit of her saliva on my face!

Brooklyn Vegan captured a slew of photos from Saturday’s festivities of virtually every band performing. The line up this year included: headliners Built To Spill and Spank Rock with additional acts The Ravonettes, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Blue Van, Grand Duchy, Frighten Rabbit, Japandroids, Tiny Master of Today and a handful of additional acts. Japandroids, naturally, stole the show, while The Blue Van’s an emerging artist to keep an eye one. Check out ‘em for yourself.
