Springtime Sheer: Next Season All About Nipples

Two days into New York Fashion Week, one thing is clear: it's going to be a very sheer spring. Across the board, designers have been embracing barely-there fabrics with nothing underneath, leaving little to the imagination. Seriously, Fashion Week thus far has seen more nipples than an issue of Hustler. Fledgling designer Jen Kao's predominantly nude spring collection presented a handful of see-through tops in a show that has so far won quite a bit of praise. Cynthia Steffe too opened her show today with a floral short suit worn atop a sheer tank with nothing underneath. Meanwhile, Vena Cava included one particular safety-pin ornamented black tunic on its runway yesterday that, although equipped with an opaque bottom, was totally sheer from the ribs up.

Also on board: Organic by John Patrick. And this trend isn’t only going to be affecting the ladies. If the designers behind Duckie Brown have their way, boys will be going sheer this spring as well. On their runway yesterday, Duckie Brown outfitted two male models in totally sheer tees. But is sheer easier or harder to pull off in everyday life than the no-pants trend that likewise seems to be taking hold of SS10 runways (see here, here and here)?
