Rachel McAdams Not In ‘Spider-Man 4’ + Superman Sequel Canceled?

Maybe it's not the same Hollywood Kryptonite that's felling big-budget popcorn flicks, but there's still something noxious in the Hills. It threatened Batman first and is worming its way into the sequel to Bryan Singer's Superman Returns and perhaps even the fourth installment of Spider-Man. Both of the most recent iterations in the respective franchises were kind of bland and ran way too long. They need something of a miracle or a facelift to flourish in another installment. Obviously, that's what someone was hoping by trying to lure Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams in as a villain for the fourth Spider-Man through hearsay.
But the meanest girl denies that a turn as a spider-villainess is in the cards. She told Entertainment Weekly, “That’s a total rumor, I have to say. I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4. And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.”
Meanwhile the sequel to Superman Returns remains “in a weird place.” There are many ominous signs at play here. First, the director locked into direct the sequel isn’t Singer. who ushered in the first. Also, the franchise is currently wrought in a litigious cat’s cradle between DC Comics/Warner Bros. and heirs of the guy who created Superman. Less auspiciously, some time ago, the DC Entertainment president herself said something like, “Oh that thing? It’s not happening. Not now, not ev-arr.” So there you go.
