Naycations: The New Staycations
December 10, 2008
The sky is falling, according to travel industry insiders. Airlines are predicting losses of up to $2.5 billion in 2009, online travel searches (and subsequent searches) are way down, and recent polls are showing that Americans are not planning travel for 2009. The biggest reason for this trend is the economy (duh) -- both psychologically and literally. However, recent airline fee hikes (despite drastic fuel charge drops) haven't helped things either. In many quarters, 2009 is already being counted as a wash, and the travel industry is looking ahead and pinning its hopes on a resurgent 2010. The good news: If you've socked away money under your mattress, 2009 will be the year of the travel deal.
