New Skyscraper Heel Now Injury-Equipped
November 03, 2008
This season has welcomed an endless parade of death defying heels. From Prada’s sky-high platforms (atop which not one, but two models tumbled on the SS09 catwalk) to Christian Louboutin’s commitment to the 8-inch heel, today’s footwear trends beg the question: Where will it end? Right on topic is "Medic Esthetic" -- a new line by Gwendolyn Huskens, a designer currently studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
“Her collection of cream and skin-toned footwear for women is made from medical materials and supplies such as plaster bandages, steel and band-aids,” says Design Boom. While some of the styles appear a bit more functional then others, each pair is a bona fide conversation piece. Not to mention that both the skyscraper stiletto and the ace bandage/cast/gauze wrap it requires are perfectly packaged all in one. In fact, it looks as though fall’s band-aid as fashion accoutrement trend has been taken one step farther.

The shoes on the right are a rip-off. Marloes ten Bhomer invented a leather mache technique back in 2003! http://www.lucymackintosh.ch/archives.php?id=47&image_id=626
