The Selby Meets Sally Singer
May 22, 2009
In one of his latest at-home visits with a notable creative, photographer Todd Selby invades Vogue features director Sally Singer’s NYC abode at the legendary Hotel Chelsea. As the front-row fixture is a particular favorite of mine, I find peering into Singer’s domestic world totally thrilling. In addition to a slew of great images, Selby’s standard Q&A with Singer offers some savory responses, such as to, "What was the most fun you have ever had while working?"
To which Singer responds, “crossing the Sahara for the Mali Music Festival, Jan. 08.” And, as far as one good thing about the economic downturn: “could discourage creation of more red-carpet-only celebutantes.” Singer also muses on fashion’s current state and its relationship to the recession (in much grander detail) in the June issue of The Atlantic, in a particularly interesting piece here.

The more I read about Ms. Singer, the more I like. As a designer, it’s usually difficult to find people in this business who have the ability to view it with an intellectual bent or to be able to place fashion in a larger societal context. Love the comment about the celebutantes! The Atlantic article is really amazing. Required reading for anyone in our business.
